Registrars Protest ICANN's Proposed Settlement with VeriSign February 16th, 2006

Eight of the world largest registrars (GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Tucows, Register.com, BulkRegister, Schlund + Partner AG, Melbourne IT and Intercosmos Media Group), representing 57 percent of currently registered domains, sent an open letter to Vint Cerf, ICANN Chairman, stating their formal opposition to the revised proposed settlement with VeriSign.

Bob Parsons, founder and CEO of GoDaddy, has voiced disapproval of the pending agreement between the ICANN and VeriSign. "The proposed agreement is a bad deal for our customers and the Internet community as a whole," said Parsons.

Bob Parsons commented that .com pricing should be declining, not rising, due to the inherent economies of scale. "Under no circumstances should VeriSign be allowed to raise .com prices without cost-based justification."
